Who is STIF Intermediate Training for?
Non-specialist clinical staff in
  • General practice
  • Sexual & Reproductive Health
  • Alternative provider settings (e.g. Third sector, private companies)

Level 3 Sexual Health service staff
  • Nurses
  • Junior doctors; Foundation Years, GP VTS
  • Specialty Doctors
  • Physician Associates
  • Advanced Clinical Practitioners

Knowledge and skills required to register for STIF Intermediate Competency

It is the responsibility of the Registered Competency Trainer to determine that the trainee has the appropriate level of knowledge and practical clinical experience to undertake the STIF Intermediate Competency training and assessments.

What does the training involve?

STIF Intermediate Competency involves intensive and tailored one-to-one clinical training within a Sexual Health clinic setting.  The training requires an average of 10 clinical sessions (40 hours) but less for those with considerable experience and up to 15 clinical sessions (60 hours) for those with little previous experience. There is an upper limit of 12 months from the date of the first assessment to completion of the package and certification. 


Assuming you meet the training criteria, you should discuss registering for STIF Intermediate Competency with your educational supervisor and identify your Registered STIF Competency Trainer Click Here
  1. Discuss your training needs and experience with your trainer using the Learning Needs Assessment Questionnaire - Click Here
  2. Assuming your trainer is happy to proceed, you should then secure your funding, if not self-paying, and agree a potential start date.
  3. Complete the STIF Intermediate registration form and submit. Click here.
  4. Registration is confirmed when the registration fee has been paid.

Invoice arrangements for STIF Competency registrations
  • Please contact the STIF Secretariat using the contact form below if you wish to an invoice to be raised for your registration fee or for bulk registrations.
  • Please note that full invoicing instructions must be provided together with a Purchase Order to be quoted on the invoice.
  • Trainees will be emailed passwords and web link to access the training materials when payment of the invoice has been received.
PLEASE NOTE: There is an upper limit of 12 months from the date of your first assessment to completion of the training and assessments and sign off for certification.
