STI Foundation Complete Competency allows trainees to complete Intermediate and Advanced Competencies together; they can be done one after another (Intermediate then Advanced) or can be undertaken at the same time
- Training is supervised by Registered STI Foundation Competency Trainers as well as appropriately skilled senior members of the multi-professional team.
STI Foundation Complete training:
- Aims to develop the knowledge, skills, experience and competence of healthcare professionals to diagnose and manage sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- Provides a framework to ensure that sufficient experience is gained to practice at an advanced level.
- Suitable for specialist sexual health nurses working towards independent and advanced clinical practice and for those planning to lead and deliver Level 2 standard sexual health services.
- Certification at Advanced level (Diploma) enables the successful trainee to register as a STIF Competency Trainer

- It is highly recommended that you complete 50% of the e-learning before commencing your training and assessments.
- Non-NHS staff (including those working outside the UK)
This group of users will need to pay for access to eHIV-STI.

Time Frame for Completion of Training
24 months from the date of the first assessment. If there are extenuating circumstances which prevent completion in the proscribed timeframe, a training extension request form must be completed before the expiry of the agreed time.
On successful completion of the training and assessment programme, a Diploma of STI Foundation Complete Competency is awarded. This needs to be revalidated every five years.
